Smithfield UCC's historic sanctuary

Wedding Guidelines

The ministers and members of Smithfield United Church of Christ welcome your consideration of our church as a location for your wedding. Please read these guidelines carefully. The scheduling of your ceremony constitutes an agreement to the following conditions:

  1. Couples must be willing to meet with the minister for counseling sessions prior to the wedding.
  2. No tapes, staples, nails, etc. of any kind are permitted in the decoration of the sanctuary.
  3. Photographers and videographers must consult with the minister prior to the ceremony. In general, they are required to shoot from the rear of the sanctuary and use available light. Flash photography by anyone in the congregation is not permitted.
  4. The throwing of rice and birdseed is limited to outside areas only.
  5. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are prohibited on church premises.
  6. A marriage license must be provided to the minister no later than the time of rehearsal.
  7. Permission from the Senior Minister of Smithfield UCC must be obtained prior to the scheduling of the wedding for the use of any officiating clergy other than those on staff at Smithfield UCC. Outside clergy must complete and return the Visiting Clergy Wedding Application Form no later than two months before the wedding date.
  8. Musicians, other than those on staff at Smithfield UCC, must receive prior approval by the Senior Minister and Director of Music.
  9. The church reserves the right to schedule more than one wedding on any given day. Four hours are blocked per wedding: 2 hours prior to the service, 1 hour for the service, and 1 hour following the service. Special considerations may be negotiated.
  10. Rehearsals will be conducted under the supervision of the clergy in charge.

Fees

A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to reserve wedding date and time. All fees are due in the church office no later than one month in advance of scheduled wedding date and are non-refundable at that time. Sanctuary fee is waived for members of Smithfield UCC.

  1. Sanctuary fee                                                       $500
  2. Honorarium for Smithfield UCC minister          $400
  3. Custodial fee for wedding                                  $200
    • a. Plus $50 per hour after four hours
  4. Custodial fee for rehearsal                                   $50
  5. Honorarium for organist (to be negotiated and paid directly to organist)
  6. Honorarium for soloist (to be negotiated with and paid directly to soloist)
