Apple Festival October 2009 Part 2 As usual Smithfield Cafe offers its menu of barbecued ham, kielbasa and kraut, haluski, and pierogies. Some go there first. Others head straight for the desserts. From time to time the separate lines become one. ![]() Mariruth's gourmet apples sell out. Some customers find it difficult to decide among the many flavor choices and leave with two or three rather than the single one they had intended to purchase. ![]() It's a time of extravagant hospitality for all!
There's particular joy in finding a long-time friend in the "apple" line. ![]() It's also good to BE with friends when you reach the cashier and have to come up with the payment particularly when the cashier is out of smaller bills and you only have a twenty. ![]() It's coming on 2:00. The dumpling pans are empty, and there are only a few pieces of apple pie to accommodate the final customers. ![]() Horace has kept the music going for 3 hours. He's welcomed Art to improvise on his harmonica, and he's called our sweet Lauraine to the microphone for her soulful rendition of "This Little Light of Mine." ![]() Regrettably the rainy weather has meant that the mural-bound Andys (Warhol and Carnegie) were on the outside looking in on the festivities this year. Let's hope for sunshine and spring breezes when we return to Strawberry Way for the first Friday in May's Strawberry Festival! ![]()
