It's a blustery, cold day in Pittsburgh. Many outlying roads are snow-covered and slippery, and a number of cast members are unable to make it to church or are slow in arriving. But, for the intergenerational Christmas pageant to be ready by December 21, the rehearsals must begin today, December 7. ![]() Our pianist is at the piano, putting in order the hymns to be sung. ![]() Rehearsal begins with the first narrator: Donkey, who carried Jesus's mother uphill and down. He will be joined by other donkeys, including this white-bearded fellow receiving instructions from the fast-moving director. ![]() Next come the second narrators: Cow, who gave Jesus her manger for his bed, and the Angel Gabriella, who's up in the organ loft. The single cow able to attend this morning has apparently headed for the warm stable. ![]() The third narrator comes to the pulpit: Sheep. Sheep gave her wool as a warm blanket for the Christ Child. The shepherds out in the field suddenly hear the sound of angels singing "Gloria!" And lo, the angels appear. ![]() Mary and Joseph ponder the wonders of this birth in their hearts ![]() The fourth narrator speaks: Camel, who with her friends carried the many Wise Ones from the East to Bethlehem. ![]() The rehearsal ends with the entire cast gathered for a practice, if uncoordinated, bow. ![]()
